Merced Fair was hot, busy with hard working volunteers, locals and fair food. If you didn’t make it this year you missed out on a great Old Mac Donalds Farm full of small and large animals. There were cows, birds, goats, pigs, mules and of course the infamous “Charlie the camel” from Oak Valley Dairy. The sheep shearing demonstrations by Sorensens Farm owners Robert and Emily Lindsey were definitely an educational treat for all and mostly to those have never even seen a sheep!
Our Local Choices booth sat right in the middle of all these farm animals promoting the importance of preserving their existence and what some of them can offer us on an organic food and product level such as milk, meats and natural wool. Our friends from Defenders of Wildlife also joined us at the fair spreading their goal of protecting and restoring our local native wildlife.
We had a good time promoting our featured farmers Angel’s Heavenly Hog Farm, Sorensen Natural Sheep Farm and Rancho Piccolo. Our booth visitors enjoyed local farm photos, literature and detailed information by us, let’s just say there was a lot of talk about “organic & natural farming” going on.
Thank you to these farmers for giving us the opportunity to showcase them and for understanding our mission in creating an organic community!
