Last weekend my husband and I visited the Merced Farmers Market (19th & N street) for the first time. What a pleasant surprise! There were about a dozen local farmers, all friendly and happy to be offering their very fresh produce of the season.
We brought home some wonderful whole spelt bread, cranberry orange bread, and my favorite, Kalamata olive rosemary bread. These tasty breads came from J.J.’S Breads located in Mariposa. J.J. is a very passionate Organic baker that also makes muffin, scones, cookies and more goodies! She is there every other Saturday. For more information call J.J at 209-377-8458
Our second purchase was from Craig Garden in Hilmar. Gordon Craig is a friendly farmer who grows Organic persimmons. He also grows pluots and other fruits on his farm. Gordon can be reached at 209-634-1513.
Schaefer Farm from Delhi grows a wide variety of fruits, nuts and vegetables. Most of their fruits are natural (no sprays!) sun dried or dehydrated. Their pomegranate seeds were calling me! Looking for something special? Call 209-667-2916.
Our last stop was Athena’s Gift. They make wonderful olive oils that are a blend of Spanish and Italian varieties. Anne Piccirillo represented her family product that was once just a hobby that has flourished into 400 trees in Gustine. We sampled four different oils with French bread ranging from light to peppery. What a treat…thanks Anne!
How nice it is to have these wonderful passionate farmers right here in our own community!
